Main Characters:

  • Pam Olson – early 30s, personal trainer, recently finished renovating her grandmother’s old home that she purchased, looking for her next project when she pulls a wish off the Wishing Tree, dating Steve Turner
  • Steve Turner – mid- to late-30s, personal trainer, dating Pam Olson and tries to convince her that she should start a business as an interior designer because she has a talent for it

I truly enjoyed reading the rest of Pam and Steve’s story! Readers first met Pam and Steve in Hinske’s Workout Wishes & Valentine Kisses (book #5 in the series). The two books together could easily be a full-length novel, so you probably want to read the start of their relationship first.

At the beginning of this story, Pam and Steve have been dating for a few months, and Pam is literally buying the last piece she needs to finish her home remodel. She has been learning as she goes and posting her successes and failures online. As a result, she has developed quite the social media following, especially in Linden Falls. A number of residents, including Steve, admire her eye for design, which turns into an opportunity to host a new home improvement show when she takes on a bathroom remodel for her mom.

Along with the stresses involved in this new undertaking, Pam becomes a little preoccupied with a wish from the Wishing Tree about a shelter dog who was due to be euthanized and a desire for a no-kill shelter in Linden Falls. Top that off with some bumps in the road for her new relationship with Steve, and we have all the makings of a great Barbara Hinske story, complete with a ton of activity and lots of furry friends.

Everything always seems to work out in Linden Falls, so we pretty much know going in that Pam and Steve will get their happily ever after and the shelter will come to pass. But Hinske does a great job creating some real-life challenges along the way. No matter how magical Linden Falls is, not everything starts and stays sunshine and rainbows. I feel we always get to the sunshine and rainbows, but life almost never starts that way, and this piece in the series is a nice reminder of that.
